Sea Lion Watermelon Sour – Britannia Brewing Company (Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks) (O’hare’s Gastropub)

From Britannia Brewing Company in collaboration with Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks and O’hare’s Gastropub all in Richmond comes their “Sea Lion Watermelon Sour”.  The beer pours a golden yellow colour with a white head that dissipated quickly.  The aroma consists of some nondescript fruits with some mild tartness and a semi sweet finish.  The flavour is of tartness, maybe a hint of watermelon but more like cucumber probably coming from the peel of the watermelon with some vegetal flavours.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.5%.  I did enjoy this beer but it was a bit odd for a watermelon beer.  But watermelon must be a very tough ingredient to use.

Seedspitter Watermelon Witbier – Parallel 49 Brewing

From the fairly new parallel 49 brewery in Vancouver BC comes the “Seedspitter watermelon Witbier”. The beer pours a cloudy light amber with a small white head. The brew smells of both watermelon and citrus with a wheat smell in the background. The beer tastes like an average wheat beer with citrus and watermelon as background flavors.  There is a mildly strong aftertaste to this beer.   This is a nice refreshing summer beer.  This beer is very popular around Vancouver currently!

This beer was part of Mikes Craft Beer’s first ever tasting and was reviewed as follows:  Tom 5/10, Stu 5/10 and Me at 9/10.  I think it is safe to say I am a Wheat Beer fan and they are not.  The beer was purchased in a growler for this tasting.

Hell or High Watermelon – 21st Amendment Brewery

The thing that makes the “Hell or High Watermelon” beer so interesting is that instead of using water in the mix they use Watermelon Juice Concentrate.  Nearing the end of the brewing they add some more Watermelon Juice to enhance the flavor a bit.  From the obvious clues on the can this beer is from San Francisco, California US.  A friend brought it back from California when he moved back to Canada.  I wish I was able to purchase this beer in Vancouver though as it was a very refreshing wheat beer.  The taste of Watermelon was not really abundant but it gave the beer a little kick that was unique.  The alcohol content is 4.9%.  Worth the try if you are in San Fransisco or you find it on your beer hunting travels.
