West Beach Fruit – White Rock Beach Beer Company

From White Rock Beach Beer Company in White Rock comes their “West Beach Fruit” an American Pale Ale.  The beer pours a deep copper orange with an off white head.  The aroma consists of huge citrusfruity notes, sweetness, caramel and floral hops.  The flavour is of earth, citrus fruit, caramel, some sweetness and mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 36.  While not an overly complex beer it is quite flavourful and well worth picking up if you head to White Rock!

‘Pier’ IPA – White Rock Beach Beer Company

From White Rock Beach Beer Company in White Rock comes their “’Pier’ IPA”.  The beer pours an orange coulor with an off white head.  The aroma consists of slightly sweet fruity front with a very mild floral hops finish although it is understated.  The flavour is of lemon citrus, tropical melon, some decent earthy notes and a low bitterness.  This is an English IPA to the max and drinks more like a mild pale ale than an India Pale Ale.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 80 (Not all IBU goes to bitterness).  As long as you go into this beer knowing it is not a hop heads dream you should really enjoy this beer for the flavours it delivers.

Commercial Description:  A trio of hops – Magnum, Centennial, and Cascade – give this craft-brewery facourite the ‘bite’ devoted hopheads are looking for, while finishing smooth and crisp.

White Rock Beach Beer Company – West Beach Fruit Pale Ale

IMG_0252

The White Rock Beach Beer Company of White Rock, BC has an interesting take on the American Pale Ale style.

A clear dark orange colour with a coarse, parchment coloured head.  Little carbonation is visible, adding to the impression of clarity.

The name is apt, the nose is full or fruit, most of it sweet mixed with grapefruit.  There is a little bit of celery under the fruit balancing the sweet.

The first sip has sweet, sour and bitter.  There is a surprising hint of strawberry against bitter herbs.  The bitter continues further than the strawberries and settles into a more traditional pale ale flavour profile.  The hops are noticeable but not overwhelming.  The malt does not add particular flavour but a balancing sweetness.  The mouthfeel is a touch rough and roudy, rolling across the tongue.

White Rock Beach Beer Company – White Rock

White Rock now officially has their very own brewery!  On April 26th, 2014 the newest brewery in BC opened their doors.  It’s called White Rock Beach Beer Company and its a welcome addition to the local scene.  The brewery was started up by 3 guys Rob Kwalheim (Brewmaster), Peter Adams and Bill Haddow (Marketing) all from the same much different profession, Teachers.  The brewery launched with 3 beers White Rock West Beach Fruit, White Rock East Beach Nut and their seasonal White Rock Border Porter.  The brewery will only be opened on weekends to start as they will be working all week currently.

I have been to a few Nano Breweries over the last few years but this one takes the cake as the smallest one by a long long shot.  The system they are using is more of less an uber home brew system.  I am pretty sure they will be upgrading their system in the near future as this one is just way to small.  Every brewery has to start somewhere though!

The brewing system is comprised of a small Brew Magic system for the actual brewing.  The beer is then transferred into Keg style fermentors that I would guess are around 50L.  Their beer is then transferred into smaller kegs when the fermentation is done to be ready to serve to customers.  I think they may have underestimated how big craft beer is in the province and how big the demand will be.  I am just happy there is yet another great local brewery in Metro Vancouver!

White Rock West Beach Fruit – White Rock Beach Beer Company

The explosion of craft beer has not slowed one bit in BC!  The lastest brewery to open is White Rock Beach Beer Company and is located in White Rock BC near the beach and the Rock that gave the area its name.  I was down in White Rock for the grand opening and picked up a growler of their “White Rock West Beach Fruit”.  The beer pours a copper colour with an off white colour.  The aroma consists of malts, citrus and floral hops.  The flavour is of sweet citrus, malts, caramel and some mild hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 36.  This is a nice refreshing Pale Ale that will pair well with the hot summer weather on the way.  Its low on bitterness but it is full of flavour.
