Hawaiian Ivory Milkshake IPA – 2 Crows Brewing (Kilter Brewing)


From 2 Crows Brewing out of Halifax, Nova Scotia in collaboration with Kilter Brewing in Winnipeg Manitoba comes their “Hawaiian Ivory Milkshake IPA”.  The beer pours a murky orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruit, juicy hops, coconut, resin and lactose.  The flavour is of pineapple, mango, citrus, banana, citrus rind, resin, lactose, yeast and medium bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.3% with an IBU of 49.  Not as juice forward as many Milkshake IPA’s with a more pronounced bitterness but regardless it is a tasty juice bomb.

Commercial Description:  Milkshake IPA with coconut, mango, pineapple, banana, & lime.

Roggenbier – Boundary Brewing


From Boundary Brewing in Kelowna comes their “Roggenbier” a German style Red Rye Ale. The beer pours a copper colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of rye spice, bready malts, grain, fruity esters with some pronounced citrus. The flavour is of rye spice, bread, grain, citrus, citrus rind, fruity esters, yeast, herbal hops and mild bitterness. The alcohol contnet comes in at 5% with an IBU of 28. I have not had a ton of beers in this style but I can say that I quite enjoyed this one. 

Commercial Description: A medium bodied German Rye Red Ale. This beer puts the rye malt forward, showcasing the delicate spicyness of the grain, with hints of caramel and roasted barley and perfectly balanced with a delicate herbal hops finish.

Arcade Glow Pale Ale – Boombox Brewing


From Boombox Brewing in Vancouver brewing out of Dogwood Brewing comes their “Arcade Glow Pale Ale”.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, biscuit malts and yeast.  The flavour is of generic citrus, orange, citrus rind, yeast, resin, biscuit malts and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% and has a North East haze.  Boombox Brewing never disappoints.  This stuff is really good!

Ingredients as per brewery:  Pale Ale featuring Simcoe, Mosaic and HBC522 hops.

The Fraser – Steel & Oak Brewing (Four Winds Brewing)


From Steel & Oak Brewing in New Westminster in collaboration with Delta’s Four Winds Brewing across the river comes “The Fraser” a pale ale fermented with Saccharomyces Trois.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of light tropical fruit, yeasty, mild funk and some floral hops.  The flavour is of mango, stone fruit, tropical fruit, citrus rind, yeast, mild funk with a dry not sweet finish.  There is very little bitterness in this brew.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.2% with an IBU of 24.  This beer is not going to punch you in the face with flavour but it is an excellently executed collaboration brew from two great breweries.

Commercial Description:  Fermented with Saccharomyces Trois yeast this Pale Ale was brewed with Amchoor (Green Mango spice) and hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca, as well as some fresh Cashmere for good measure. The Fraser is fruity, tropical, and funk. Not as funky as the people who brewed it but still pretty funky.

Kila Belgian Golden Ale – Hearthstone Brewery


From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Kila Belgian Golden Ale”.  This glass of beer was the first official growler fill of the brewery!  The beer poured a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of Belgian yeast, citrus and some grainy malts.  The flavour is of Belgian yeast, citrus, mild apple, sugary, grassy hops, some caramel and mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 20.
