Steve Has Signed Up for BC Beer Wars 2019

I have just announced that I will be participating in the BC Beer Wars 2019 boxing competition supporting community programs at Eastside Boxing Club.Vancouver Island Brewing has kindly donated 50L of canned beer to the event to be sold in support of the same cause.

I haven’t always been interested in boxing or similar sports, I do historical fencing with Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly, which shares a lot of values with Eastside Boxing, but I recently started training boxing with them twice a month, more as a way to improve my fencing by getting used to different movement than anything, and it turns out I enjoy it. So when it came time for the 2019 BC Beer Wars I thought it would be fun to join and really take boxing seriously for a short but intense time.

Venerator Doppelbock – Swans Hotel and Brewpub

From Swans Hotel and Brewpub in Victoria BC comes their “Venerator Doppelbock”.  The beer pours a deep reddish brown with a brown head.  The aroma is of dark fruit, caramel, toffee and some roasted malts.  The flavour is of roasted malts, toffee, chocolate, dark fruit, bitterness, earth, resin in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 7.5%.  While this might not be my favourite example of the style it was enjoyable.

Episode 64 – The Maritimes Come to Play

On this episode we sat down to a trio of brews from the Maritime Provinces of Canada.  We got these beer in trade from 902 Brewcast a great Halifax podcast.  The beers we enjoyed were Tatamagouche Brewing Guava Heist Berliner Weisse, a collaboration betweeen 2 Crows Brewing and Niche Brewing Cool Kids a Foedre-Aged Sour with Raspberry & Tart Cherry and the Trailway Brewing Hu Jon Hops American IPA.
