Dough Head Gingerbread Ale – Vancouver Island Brewery

O’hare’s Beer Club December 2012 Box

Limited Release

From Victoria BC’s Vancouver Island Brewery comes their “Dough Head Gingerbread Ale” a spiced ale.  The colour of the beer is an amber/brown with an off white head.  The aroma of this brew consists of overwhelmingly of gingerbread!  You also detect notes of ginger, clove, malts and cinnamon on the nose.  The flavour of the beer is not far off from the aroma with every sip consisting of an overwelming gingerbread flavour with notes of malts, cinnamon, clove, ginger and an ever so slight hint of hops.  This beer is like drinking a gingerbread man!  I keep on hearing “Not the gum drop buttons!”.  The beer has an alcohol content of 5.5% and an IBU of 25.  This is a great beer to share with a friend!

Commercial Description: Mix and pat, and bake in a pan, get this gingerbread ale while you can. Dough Head mixes the best of brewing and baking to create a beer with a touch of spice that is balanced with a malty sweetness. So instead of a trail of breadcrumbs through the dark forest, follow this delicious treat for a pint of perfection!

Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows:  Jerk Chicken or sushi

  1. I was wondering about this one. Seems I’ve been holding off on the gingerbread beers of late, wonder why.

Sipping on a Dough-Boy Gingerbread right now. It’s incredibly rich, with a very pronounced nutmeg/gingerbread taste. An amazing blend of spices in every. single. sip.

Amazing, really… Februrary, and it tastes like I’m drinking Christmas 😉
